Configurations allows you to create multiple versions of a model, part, or assembly within the same document. In addition, they are a practical way to create and generate families of models containing different dimensions, components, or parameters.

Using families of parts allows you to create multiple configurations of a part or assembly while specifying parameters in an Excel worksheet that can be separate from the SW document.
